XType - Addictive Typing Tutor! App Reviews

12 Customer Reviews:

This is poor software. It seems that this software was written overseas because the use of the english language in the program is very poor. The program is unstable. It crashes and can lock up a MacBook Air requiring the use of Force Quit. We would not recommend the purchase of this software.

I thought that for 5 euros I would receive a full tutorial solution - but it is only the first lesson out of 15 lessons. Just to train one row on your keyboard. The full price for the whole keyboard must be 5*15=75 euros which is too pricy. By the way the rest 14 lessons are not available on the AppStore:(

I dont remember coming across a worse piece of software. As soon as you get to the end of a short exercise, one line of letters on the keyboard, the whole thing blocks, at least this is what happened on the Arabic lessons. At this point you have to go out, because it is the option open to you. You then get a silly message, sometimes saying you are using stop too often. You have to click on this and re-enter. There is absolutely no technical information about this product. You cannot get to the site of the developer because the page doesnt open. There should be some updates, I think, to remedy these short comings, but these have not appeared. These comments are for version 4.0

It’s failed to install.

The app states that it will work on Os X: 10.5 and on. It failed to install on 10.15.

I bought this app to teach my children to type properly. At first, we did not understand how to progress past Lesson 1. It was very frustrating as it seemed all the menu options are disabled (even when the Stop button had been pressed). Online support is just email, but the response from developer came within 36 hours, and wuickly cleared up our confusion. The Help topics seem a bit sparse, but if one reads carefully, there is a good chance the answer to your question will be there. The application is very intuitive to use. One annoying issue is that the app monitors your keyboard input and makes noise and thinks yourer typing in it even when its in the background. I find this annoying as I often have need to switch to other apps as I work, and I find this behavior to be distracting. It forces me to quit the app when moving to another task instead of just putting it in the background.

I have used the "hunt and peck" method all my life and never thought I could learn to type without looking at my fingers. I tried a more well-known (and more expensive) program and got bored right away. I decided to give XType a try…and am I ever glad I did! Not only is it fun and challenging, but it really is addictive trying to get to the next level. I found I practiced much longer than I might have because of that. Ive used it for two weeks now, and have made it to level 10 (out of 15). I can now type most things quickly and accurately WITHOUT watching my fingers! Xtype focuses on both speed and accuracy and you get points for both. Many lessons have a picture of hands that highlight the finger to use for the letter you are about to type. Im starting to tackle the numbers keys lesson and the finger chart is very helpful for that. There is also a running meter of your speed and accuracy as you proceed through the lesson. So you can monitor how you are doing in real time. I did have a question for the developer and he responded right away with a very thorough and helpful answer. I cant recommend this app enough…if you want to learn or improve your typing this is a fun and fast way to do it!! It cant be beat! Buy this app…you wont be disappointed!!!! (And yes, I typed this review without watching my hands)… Update: I forgot to say that another reviewer mentioned annoying sound…this can easily be turned off.

This is an enjoyable program that is easy to use. It has helped my typing. On the other hand, it is full of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. It crashes in Lesson 10 so that I cant progress any further.

So far I tried the first 5 arabic excercises and were extremely helpful . I scored 501 out of 500 ; however, I couldnt get the app to start the next set of arabic exercises . No idea whats wrong. Maybe I needed first to finish the english exercises befire gets qualified to the advanced ones . Please help if anybody knows how.

This might be fine for English typing, but not good for Arabic typing. I tried all of the Arabic keyboards available in Mac OS X. None of the keyboards match the finger placement prompted by the app. The developer website and support site do not work. I would not recommend this app. There are no instructions in the help file either. I had high hopes. I will have to look for something else. And I wish I had by $5 back.
